A New Era in Coinage
Introducing a new Monarch, most of our 2023 dated coins now feature a new and highly admired portrait of His Majesty King Charles III.
Officially approved by His Majesty in November 2022 for use on all St Helena coins, the portrait has been created by engraver Glyn Davies who has captured a unique likeness of our new King facing left.
Alternating the direction of the new Monarch is a royal currency tradition that dates back to King Charles II which states that new monarchs should face in the opposite direction of their predecessors.
