The ‘Queen’s Virtues’ form part of the Victoria Memorial monument outside Buckingham Palace, which features sculptured allegorical figures that personify:
• Victory
• Truth
• Charity
• Justice
• Courage
• Constancy
The Queen’s Virtues coin series was launched to celebrate the 95th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who holds those six virtues as dearly as her great-great-grandmother did. The first coin in the series featured Victory and the second Truth, while this third design portrays Charity, the virtue of compassion for others and a spirit of generosity.
Though her duties are now reducing in her late-90’s, Queen Elizabeth II has dedicated more of her time and energy to more charities than any monarch that came before her; at the height of her activities it is estimated that Her Majesty helped to raise more than £1.4 billion per year.
This 2022 Charity design by artist Elles Kloosterman celebrates Her Majesty’s commitment to the light that monarchy can shine on causes that require our support.
